WHAT IS THEIRON PIPELINE?
The Iron Pipeline is the route of illegal guns trafficked up the I-95 corridor from southern states with weak gun laws to states with strict gun laws, like Maryland. Many of the crimes in our state are committed with these illegal guns.

WHY IS MARYLANDA UNIQUE TARGET?
Despite our state’s strong gun control laws, Maryland faces a unique set of challenges that make it vulnerable to the influx of illegal firearms.

Maryland’s Strict Gun Laws Create Demand
With stringent background checks, age restrictions, and limits on private sales, it’s harder for individuals to legally obtain guns here. This drives the black market demand for trafficked firearms, many of which come from states with more relaxed regulations.

Proximity to the “Iron Pipeline”
The I-95 corridor runs through states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, which have looser gun laws. This easy access allows traffickers to exploit differences in state regulations, purchasing guns cheaply and reselling them at higher prices in Maryland.
OurPlan
At LifeBridge Health, we see the devastating impact of gun violence every day—it’s not just a legal issue, but a public health crisis. Illegal guns fuel this violence, and by addressing the illegal gun trade, we can save lives and create safer, healthier communities. Here’s how we plan to stop the flow of illegal guns into Maryland.

1
Pressure “Iron Pipeline” States
Many guns used in Maryland crimes come from states along the I-95 corridor with weak gun laws. We’ll rally citizens to petition lawmakers in these states, urging stricter regulations to stop the flow of illegal guns.
-
2
Advocate for New Policies in Maryland
We’re pushing for increased penalties and accountability on every out-of-state, illegally trafficked gun. This would hold traffickers accountable, even if the illegal sale happens outside Maryland.
